Which the following Is good advice, in regards to writing course on my own personaly experience i was down the pub for GCSE English, but in terms of writing courses especially for film there are great technical requirements also required as well as the creative side , and courses are very good for learning about this. --

On a note, recent test shoot i done for HenryV and deadlights was more of a lads weekend's and whilt it was a lot of fun , have utlimatly paid the price in teh quality of footage that we got in the end. So, what did we learn today? For me, this whole thing is funny. I've seen about a million (I may be exagerating here) people who start out with the attitude:
"Fuck Hollywood! Fuck the Suits! We'll do it our own way. Yeah. We're the next big thing! Indies, all the way! We'll start our own system!"
And then when they start making films they realise that EVERYTHING is geared up against them. Rental houses will only work a certain way, money comes with certain conditions, the unions WILL go nuts at you ( especially in the U.S. ) etc., etc. Pretty soon, if they stick with it, they become everything they were railing against. This is not a bad thing mind you. It's just the way it's always been, probably always will be. It's a cute learning curve if you survive it.
I'm bracing myself for the:
"But xxx is independant and they're a big success!!!"
To which I reply:
"Yeah? And? So? What?"
You wanna be indie, be indie. You wanna be "Industry" (whatever the hell that means) then be industry. Just stop flinging mud at eachother 'cos us peoples in the middle are getting filthy.

-- I guess the takehome message here is this. There are valid reasons as to why all the Gucci kit exists. Example: Need to break up that big blank wall behind your actor but aren't allowed to paint it? Use a gobo or some scrim. If you don't have it then sure, make some, or don't bother with it. If you want to spend the money and do it, that's cool too.

I guess what I was saying there, Peter, is that some kit was invented to fulfill a purpose. But, if you don't have it or have access to it, it shouldn't prevent you from making your film.
